….We didn’t have a reservation with National/Alamo we had it with Hertz but the reviews were so scary for it and then when we got there all of the rental car desks were together so we quickly and awkwardly compared them all right then and there. ..No teníamos una reserva con National/Alamo, la teníamos con Hertz, pero las reseñas daban tanto miedo y luego, cuando llegamos allí, todos los mostradores de alquiler de autos estaban juntos, así que los comparamos rápida y nerviosamente en ese mismo momento. ….
….We didn’t get a sim card because really all we needed was the internet for the Waze while we were on the road. So we decided to get a CLARO hotspot at the same rental car company, the ladies there recommended it and honestly it worked for us. It was all unlimited data and we were able to take it around with us and even have wifi at the beach. loved it. ..No compramos una tarjeta SIM porque en realidad todo lo que necesitábamos era internet para Waze mientras estábamos de viaje. ….We also added the extra payment for the gas fuel to be considered full at drop off and that made it so we only had to put a little bit of gas on our drive back from Sosúa the day we dropped off at the airport. ..También añadimos el pago adicional para que el combustible de gasolina se considerara lleno al momento de la entrega y eso hizo que solo tuviéramos que poner un poco de gasolina en nuestro viaje de regreso desde Sosúa el día que lo dejamos en el aeropuerto. ….

….Great Airbnb, with an awesome location, is really clean, GREAT safe parking in the building, modern entry system. We were not planning on cooking at this Airbnb at all because we knew we were having dinner out the first night, we had really good Mexican food and drinks but don’t let me get ahead of myself. There was a big jug of water in the apartment, but really the most important thing here was the LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. ..Excelente Airbnb, con una ubicación increíble, estaba super limpio, EXCELENTE estacionamiento seguro en el edificio, sistema de entrada moderno. No planeábamos cocinar en este Airbnb en absoluto porque sabíamos que íbamos a cenar fuera la primera noche, comimos unos tacos riquísimos, tomamos unas margaritas deliciosas, ya ya pero no me adelanto. ….We were able to walk everywhere, there is a grocery store a block away, which we visited on Day 2 right before we drove to our second Airbnb in Sosúa. That first day while we waited for our last friend to arrive we walked (we got caught in a rain storm) to lunch at Adrian Tropical. ..Pudimos caminar a todas partes, hay una tienda de comestibles a una cuadra de distancia, que visitamos el día 2 justo antes de conducir a nuestro segundo Airbnb en Sosúa. ….After lunch, we walked back to the Airbnb and took a nap. Day 1 dinner needed to be something close, comfy, and safe for everyone’s comfort zone and it was 7:30 pm so it was 100% a laid-back atmosphere. It’s not like we are 80 years old, we are actually all between 28-32 but we were tired, nobody could party the first night, to be honest. ….The way we ordered really worked for all of us the meats, veggies, and tortillas came and we were able to make our own tacos, the drinks were boozy and super tasty, not too sweet. Highly recommend the tamarind frozen margarita. Also, as an Ecuadorian that grew up watching el Chavo del 8, I really appreciated the art inside and outside the place. Loved the vibes, even though the music wasn’t good. ..La forma en que ordenamos realmente funcionó para todos nosotros, las carnes, verduras y tortillas llegaron y pudimos hacer nuestros propios tacos, las bebidas estaban borrachas y súper sabrosas, no demasiado dulces. Recomiendo encarecidamente la margarita congelada de tamarindo. Además, como ecuatoriana que creció viendo el Chavo del 8, aprecié mucho el arte dentro y fuera del lugar. ….We started the day early and walked to Cafe401RD, the walk was a bit longer and hotter than expected but we love a good walk in a new city, we think it’s the best way to really see new places. ..Comenzamos el día temprano y caminamos hasta Cafe401RD, la caminata fue un poco más larga y calurosa de lo esperado, pero nos encanta una buena caminata en una ciudad nueva, creemos que es la mejor manera de conocer realmente nuevos lugares. ….

….We got there and the place was so quaint, and small, but thankfully there were only 3 people there and the long table was empty, it was about 8:45 am on a Sunday people were sleeping then. I ordered the omelet, friends ordered french toast, breakfast sandwiches, pineapple juice, and cold brew, it was all DELICIOUS! ….We stopped by the grocery store before hitting the road to Sosúa, we made a plan, and of course, we divided into teams of needs, Betta and I were on the drinks task, Meijun and Woody were on the main meals and breakfasts task, David + Emily were on snacks! We bought enough stuff for the next few days, but we did get more fresh protein in a great grocery store in Sosúa close to our second Airbnb. ..Nos detuvimos en la tienda de comestibles antes de tomar el camino a Sosúa, hicimos un plan y, por supuesto, nos dividimos en equipos de necesidades, Betta y yo estábamos en la tarea de bebidas, Meijun y Woody estaban en la tarea principal de comidas y desayunos, David + Emily estaban en snacks! ….We hit the road and Meijun drove us all to airbnb number 2 located in Sosúa, which is a cute beach town in the North shore of the Dominican Republic, the beach there was one of the most delicious beaches I’ve ever swam in, ok let’s get to it. ..Salimos y llegamos a la carretera, super chevere by the way, y Meijun nos llevó a todos al airbnb número 2 ubicado en Sosúa, que es un lindo pueblo de playa en la costa norte de la República Dominicana, la playa aquí fue una de las playas más deliciosas en las que he nadado, ok let’s do it. ….

….OK this was amazing, not because the house was 1000000% perfect but because it was the PERFECT house to host 6 friends that want to spend time together but also need space to breathe and have solo time. This was the villa. Do you want the positive or the negatives first?..OK, este airbnb fue increíble, no porque la casa fuera 1000000% perfecta, sino porque era la casa PERFECTA para hospedar a 6 amigos que quieren pasar tiempo juntos pero que también necesitan espacio para respirar y tener tiempo a solas. Esta era la villa. ¿Quieres lo positivo o lo negativo primero?….
….Ok, let’s get the negatives out of the way because there aren’t many. The kitchen utensils, and glassware, weren’t the best. The laundry was an extra charge in the main reception villa, which was a bit inconvenient knowing you are already in a huge villa and might as well have it inside you know? and include it in the main fee don’t make us pay extra come on. I don’t know just my thoughts jaja. We washed our stuff that we needed to reuse by hand and there was a laundry at the next airbnb so it was fine. ..Ok, hablemos rapidito de los aspectos negativos porque no hay muchos. Los utensilios de cocina y la cristalería no eran los mejores. La lavandería era un cargo adicional en la villa de recepción principal, lo cual era un poco inconveniente sabiendo que ya estás en una villa enorme y que podrías tenerla adentro, ¿sabes? e inclúyalo en la tarifa principal, no nos haga pagar aparte. No sé solo mis pensamientos jaja. Lavamos nuestras cosas que necesitábamos reutilizar a mano y había una lavandería en el próximo airbnb, así que no era tan grave. ….
….Onto the positives, the spaces were perfect, the grill, there were various chill areas, and the pool was always at the most perfect temperature even when it was raining. The stars, being able to be in the pool with your friends while others grill, others dance, others watch tv inside or nap, it was just perfect. The kitchen itself was quite comfortable, there was a dishwasher which was a MUST for us, nobody likes to do dishes, especially on vacation, am I right? The bedrooms were super comfortable and the whole house and each room had air conditioning. ..En cuanto a los aspectos positivos, los espacios eran perfectos, la parrilla, había varias áreas para relajarse y la piscina siempre estaba a la temperatura más perfecta, incluso cuando llovía. Las estrellas, poder estar en la piscina con tus amigos mientras otros hacen parrilladas, otros bailan, otros miran televisión adentro o duermen la siesta, fue simplemente perfecto. La cocina en sí era bastante cómoda, había un lavaplatos que era IMPRESCINDIBLE para nosotros, a nadie le gusta lavar los platos, especialmente en vacaciones, ¿verdad? ….We were pretty tired and needed to take it easy that day, so Betta and I found this beach (I had done previous research so we had options to look for already) on google maps and it had great reviews for the exact plans we were looking to do, have a few drinks, have some snacks, maybe snorkel, swim in the ocean, read under the sun, dance. Playa Alicia was IT. There’s a great parking area, we were there on a Monday so there weren’t a lot of people. There were lots of people selling you chairs and umbrellas though, and even though everyone was really nice and had great offers we decided to go with the hotel offers. There’s a hotel right there that allows you to sit under their umbrellas for free but you have to use their restaurant service and spend at least 1,600 pesos per person, which to be honest was easy because it wasn’t a cheap place but the waiter was great, we were going to buy drinks from them anyways so we chose that option. ..Estábamos bastante cansados y necesitábamos tomarnos las cosas con calma ese día, así que Betta y yo encontramos esta playa (había hecho una investigación previa, así que ya teníamos opciones para buscar) en Google Maps y tenía excelentes críticas para los planes exactos que buscábamos hacer, tomar unas copas, comer algunos bocadillos, tal vez bucear, nadar en el océano, leer bajo el sol, bailar. Playa Alicia lo era. Hay una gran área de estacionamiento, estuvimos allí un lunes, así que no había mucha gente. Sin embargo, había mucha gente que vendía sillas y sombrillas, y aunque todos fueron muy amables y tenían excelentes ofertas, decidimos ir con las ofertas del hotel. Ahí mismo hay un hotel que te permite sentarte bajo sus sombrillas gratis pero tienes que usar su servicio de restaurante y gastar por lo menos 1600 pesos por persona, que la verdad fue fácil porque no era un lugar barato pero el mesero era Genial, íbamos a comprarles bebidas de todos modos, así que elegimos esa opción. ….
….The 3 guys went snorkeling and it was $20/each, they got in this boat that had a glass floor and had the best snorkeling session of their lives their words not mine, the 3 girls, Betta, Emily, and I stayed behind drinking, reading, swimming, and chatting. ..Los 3 muchachos fueron a bucear y costaron $ 20 cada uno, se subieron a este bote que tenía un piso de vidrio y tuvieron la mejor sesión de esnórquel de sus vidas, sus palabras no las mías, las 3 chicas, Betta, Emily y yo nos quedamos bebiendo, leer, nadar y charlar. ….

….This day was a dream, 2 of our friends stayed behind at the Airbnb recharging. Meijun, Woody, Betta, and I headed to Laguna Dudú and left the house at around 8:30 am. Meijun made us all sandwiches the night before, and he also got up and made us all hard-boiled eggs, it was great, we all had roles and we all showed up 😊..Este día fue un sueño, 2 de nuestros amigos se quedaron en el Airbnb recargando energías. Meijun, Woody, Betta y yo nos dirigimos a Laguna Dudú y salimos de la casa alrededor de las 8:30 am. Meijun nos hizo sándwiches a todos la noche anterior, y también se levantó y nos hizo huevos duros a todos, estuvo genial, todos teníamos roles y todos los hicimos 😊…..
….The drive there was amazing, the car we rented had a sunroof and it was so good to drive with all the windows down and feeling the wind in our faces, singing, chatting… it was a 1 hour and 20 minutes smooth drive. ..El viaje hasta allí fue increíble, el auto que alquilamos tenía un techito corredizo y fue tan bueno conducir con todas las ventanas abajo y sentir el viento en la cara, cantar, charlar… fue un viaje suave de 1 hora y 20 minutos. ….

….As soon as we turned into the Laguna Dudú park, we were so surprised at how organized it all was, but also at how NATURAL, peaceful, private and incredible it all felt. I do think that we felt this way because we were there at 9:30 am which is basically when they open, and it was only the 4 of us and 3 more people? for a solid hour or two and then another couple entered the park. But as we were leaving at 11:45 am-12:00 pm more kids and adults were coming in in groups. ..Tan pronto como entramos al parque Laguna Dudú, nos sorprendió lo organizado que estaba todo, pero también lo NATURAL, pacífico, privado e increíble que se sentía. Creo que nos sentimos así porque estábamos ahí a las 9:30 am, que es básicamente cuando abren, y ¿éramos solo nosotros 4 y tal vez 3 personas más? Durante una o dos horas seguidas y luego otra pareja entró en el parque. Pero cuando salíamos a las 11:45 am-12:00 pm, más niños y adultos entraban en grupos. ….
….They had a restaurant there but we didn’t even check it out to be honest, we were there mid morning so we just snuck in the sandwiches and of course each of us had our water bottles, each of us ate a sandwich after lots of fun in the water. ..Tenían un restaurante allí, pero para ser honestos, ni siquiera lo revisamos, estábamos ahí a media mañana, así que nos trajimos (en chiquis) los sándwiches y, por supuesto, cada uno de nosotros tenía sus botellas de agua, cada uno de nosotros comió un sándwich después de un montón de diversión en el agua. ….

….it was about a 1-hour drive back to the restaurant, what was great is that we were basically driving back to the Airbnb and making a pit stop to eat DELICIOUS FOOD. ..fue un viaje de aproximadamente 1 hora de regreso al restaurante, lo que fue genial es que básicamente estábamos conduciendo de regreso al Airbnb y haciendo una parada para comer DELICIOSA COMIDA. ….

….Order the piña coladas!!! They have fresh seafood so that day we ordered conch, shrimp, and 1 whole fish. It comes with rice and beans, avocado, veggies, and tostones, and they refill it for you. Everyone there is so kind. Visit the kitchen if you can. ..Pide las piñas coladas!!! Tienen mariscos frescos, así que ese día pedimos caracol, camarones y 1 pescado entero. Viene con arroz y frijoles, aguacate, verduras y tostones, y te lo rellenan. Todos allí son muy amables. Visita la cocina si puedes. ….

….All 6 of us left home that morning at 8:30am, we had heard that we should head there as early as possible to get there when they open before all of the cruise ship groups got there. It is a big tourist destination but it is SO WORTH IT. ..Los 6 salimos de casa esa mañana a las 8:30 a.m., habíamos escuchado que debíamos ir allí lo más temprano posible para llegar cuando abrieran antes de que llegaran todos los grupos de cruceros. Es un gran destino turístico pero TANTO VALE LA PENA. ….

….You get a helmet and a lifejacket, and you leave everything behind in the car or you can rent a locker, no phones, only go pro’s 100% waterproof ones, Meijun and I were allowed to keep our glasses but we gave them to the guides every time we jumped or slid. You should bring a water bottle, reusable of course, to drink on the hike up to the first waterfall. ..Te dan un casco y un chaleco salvavidas, y dejas todo en el auto o puedes alquilar un casillero, no llevas teléfonos, solo lo que sea 100% impermeables como una Go Pro, Meijun y yo pudimos quedarnos con nuestros lentes, pero se los dimos a los guías cada vez que saltamos o nos deslizamos. ….We got to the teleferico (cable car) and we were definitely feeling a little tired but still excited to see what was ahead. I would dare to say that the little musician band that was playing while we waited for the cable car made the experience so so so much better. We sat there, well I danced, and then hopped in the cable car up, up and up the mountain. Wow, the view of the ocean and the city of Puerto Plata was so beautiful and it was crazy because we just disappeared into this cloud of fog. So when we got off the cable car everything was fully covered by this cloud, a little mysterious moment. I had no idea they have a Christ sculpture up there similar to the one in Brazil, it was pretty cool and as you keep walking there is this awesome bridge for pictures the sun came in and suddenly we could see the ocean through the clouds. Highly recommend. ..Llegamos al teleférico (teleférico) y definitivamente nos sentíamos un poco cansados pero todavía emocionados de ver lo que nos esperaba. Me atrevería a decir que la pequeña banda de músicos que tocaba mientras esperábamos el teleférico hizo que la experiencia fuera mucho mejor. ….We walked from Casa Barista to Alcazar de Colón then down Calle Las Damas stopped in the fortress, saw the cathedral from outside, walked through all El Conde street, and bought cigars and souvenirs, then walked all the way to the independence park, and then back through to Paletas Bajo Cero for a quick break and ice cream, get the passion fruit mint (chinola y hierba buena). We met up with Meijun and Woody here and walked to lunch at Jalao, the boys shared a Sancocho and some cocktails, and Betta and I shared this tostón with meats dish and ordered lemonades. ..Caminamos desde Casa Barista hasta Alcázar de Colón, luego bajamos por la calle Las Damas, nos detuvimos en la fortaleza, vimos la catedral desde afuera, caminamos por toda la calle El Conde, compramos cigarros y recuerdos, luego caminamos hasta el parque de la independencia, y luego de regreso a Paletas Bajo Cero para un descanso rápido y un helado, compra la de menta y maracuyá (chinola y hierba buena). Nos reunimos con Meijun y Woody aquí y caminamos a almorzar a Jalao, los chicos compartieron un Sancocho y algunos cócteles, y Betta y yo compartimos este plato de tostón con carnes y pedimos limonadas. ….

….After that the 4 of us walked to Chinatown and more areas in the Zona Colonial and had the awesome idea to go to KahKow Experience and make our own chocolate, it was so fun!
